Wednesday, 15 January 2020, Kuching: With an average of 1,300 workers at site every month, it is not an easy feat to ensure that everyone is safe and sound.
But Samling Resources Sdn Bhd, the main contractor for Works Package 02 (Sematan-Sungai Moyan) managed to do just that when it clocked in 7 million safe manhours two months ago in November 2019.
Samling Resources is one of the three works package contractors under the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project which has achieved the 7 million mark. The other two WPCs being Naim Gamuda JV Sdn Bhd (Works package 04) and Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd (Works Package 10).
A simple ceremony was held this morning to celebrate the achievement of 7 million safe man-hours milestone. LBU was represented by its Head of Construction Management, Ir. Ng Chin Meng while Samling Resources by its Project Director, Peter Ho. Also present was Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health deputy director, Mut Sagai.
LBU Health and Safety Manager, Abdul Rahman Kadir, lauded the 7 million safe manhours achieved by Samling Resources as it shows that the company is prioritising the welfare of its workers.
“Samling has made a great effort in organising various health and safety activities to keep all its workers on their toes to prevent any untoward incidents.
“These activities, like toolbox briefings and HSE related courses, have proven to be effective in creating awareness among the workers,” said Rahman.
Apart from inculcating a safety culture in PBHS workers, the bigger impact is building a safety conscious society.
At the end of last year, the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project surpassed its target of 30mil safe manhours by an additional 2mil manhours.
