Tuesday, 14 January 2020, Bintulu: A total of 30km of first carriageway, paved up to binder course level from Mile 5 to Nyabau Interchange and Jalan Bakun Junction to Sungai Tangap, is now ready and open to traffic.
LBU Project Manager for Works Package 10, Chong Cheong Leong said this completed first carriageway is located at Bakun Section and Niah Section with 15km each.
“With this completion, we are currently working on the second carriageway next to it while work is continuing to open more kilometres of the first carriageway.
“We still have some 47km of first carriageway to work on and we hope to get it ready by middle of this year. Then we can move on to work on the second carriageway,” said Chong.
In other work on-going at WPC10, Chong said 25 spans of the 39 span Nyabau Interchange had already been launched where the deck slab has already been completed for 21 spans. The next targeted girder launching program for another 4 spans is on 18 Jan 2020.
“There are four more crossheads to be done for this elevated interchange. Overall, we have cast and completed a total of 359 girders.
“At the same time, we are also working on its roadwork, drainage and RE wall panel.
“We expect to complete the Nyabau Interchange by end of November this year.
Once completed, Nyabau Interchange will definitely ease the traffic serving Sibu to Miri, and Miri to Sibu direction.
Construction works of the Nyabau Interchange began in March 2017 and is targeted for completion by the end of 2020.
