Thursday, 26 December 2019, Sibu: Traffic safety along Sibu Airport Roundabout to Sungai Kua Bridge will be beefed up in view of the coming surge in traffic for the coming Chinese New Year celebration.
Concerned with the traffic safety, State Assemblyman for Pelawan Yang Berhormat David Wong paid a site visit to this stretch under Sibu section recently to see for himself the traffic management aspect during this construction stage.
Wong raised his concern with LBU and the contractor for the works package, HSL DMIA JV Sdn Bhd during the visit where he was impressed with certain stretches which had seen the first carriageway, laid up to binder course level, opened to traffic.
His visit came on the heels of the successful completion of “stitching” process at the second Durin Bridge a fortnight ago where Works Minister Yang Berhormat Baru Bian performed a symbolic ceremony for the event.
Sibu section is one of the three sections under Works Package 07 (Bintangor Junction-Julau Junction and Sibu Airport Roundabout to Sungai Kua Bridge). The other two sections are Julau and Batang Rajang.
Some 32km of first carriageway, laid up to binder course level, under this works package have now been completed and opened to traffic.
While opening up the first carriageway, another 10km of second carriageway has also been completed up to binder course layer. The final layer will be the wearing course.
The new 300m long Sibu Airport Interchange under this works package is seeing the construction of its flyover bridge deck progressing in earnest. The piling works for the reinforced wall sections before and after the bridge proper are also progressing very well.
The flyover will make road travel to and from Bintulu direction to Sibu Airport and Sibu Jaya a breeze once it is completed.
