Tuesday, 17 September 2019, Kuching: Despite September 16 being a public holiday, it did not stop the Auditor-General of Malaysia, Dato’ Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, from visiting the site of the on-going Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.
Nik Azman who was here to attend the Malaysia Day celebration took time off from his busy schedule to visit Sematan to Sungai Moyan stretch (Works Package 02) where he was briefed by the Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Datu Safri Zainuddin on the overall progress of the project.
Accompanied by his department officials, Nik Azman was also shown a drone video of the progress of all the 11 works packages. Construction for the 32.770km Telok Melano to Sematan was completed early this year while works are in full swing in all the other 10 works packages to get the Highway completed by 2021.
After the briefing, the entourage visited the completed first carriageway in WPC 02 and Sungai Spora Bridge to look at the on-going works.
The visibly impressed Nik Azman remarked that the Pan Borneo Highway project would be a game-changer to Sarawak as it would open up vast opportunities to the people.
“It will open up new areas and creates lots of business and job opportunities to the people.
“It is a good investment by the Government,” he said.
