11km of first carriageway in Julau now open

Friday, 24 May 2019, Julau: Good news for those who will be travelling to Julau this coming Gawai Raya celebration. The first carriageway of 10.876km between Julau Junction and Bintangor Junction (locally known as KJD road) is now open to traffic.

Apart from this first carriageway, the newly completed 30 meters long Sungai Mador Bridge is now open to road users too.

With this first carriageway now open, it means road users will have a smoother drive, on this new stretch of highway, back to their respective kampungs this coming long festive holidays.

Construction will now move on to the second carriageway next to it while work on the other fronts at this section is actively under way and being expedited as much as possible.

Julau Section with a road length of 28.5km is one of the three Sections under Bintangor Junction-Julau Junction and Sibu Airport to Sungai Kua Bridge works package (Works Package 07).

The other two Sections are Sibu Section from Sibu Airport Roundabout to Sungai Kua with a road length of 45.765km and Batang Rajang Bridge or more popularly known as Durin Bridge with a length of 1.708km.

Construction under this works package is undertaken by HSL DMIA JV Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, about 3km of new permanent road alignment along Sungai Kua Bridge to Sungai Arip Bridge (Works Package 08) has been opened to traffic a couple of days ago.

The contractor MMJV Sdn Bhd is now working round the clock to open another 4km stretch before the Gawai Raya celebration.
