PBHS Gawai Raya road safety campaign from May 22-29

Monday, 13 May 2019, Kuching: We at Lebuhraya Borneo Utara do not take road safety lightly. Especially when traffic along the trunk road builds in the run up to festive seasons and school holidays.

It’s very sad to get reports of serious accidents along our alignment that is still under construction. Many accidents are caused by speeding vehicles cutting into the opposite lane and hitting oncoming traffic.

Others are caused by drunk driving. Whatever the cause, road safety can never be underestimated. We need to remind, remind and remind everyone to drive safe, to keep alert, to follow directional signage.

In view of the balik kampung rush this coming Gawai Raya celebration, Lebuhraya Borneo Utara, in collaboration with our works package contractors and relevant government agencies, will be organising a road safety campaign from May 22 to 29 at 10 work packages.

This will be the second road safety campaign organised after the Chinese New Year festive season in February. Such campaigns have become a regular feature during major festivals meant to inculcate safe driving among motorists.

LBU Health and Safety Manager Abdul Rahman Kadir said the campaign is aimed at promoting safe driving among motorists especially when the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is still under construction stage.

“We want to create awareness and understanding that the road is currently being upgraded to a four-lane dual carriageway and therefore, there is a need to remind road users of the hazards present with construction activities,” he said.

“Please follow the traffic signages and slow down your speed. What is important is you arrive at your destination safely,” he added.

LBU has also taken the campaign a step further by taking up commercial slot on air in major local radio stations i.e. Hitz FM and Era FM to remind road users on the importance of safe driving.

Being the Project Delivery Partner for Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, LBU has been relentless in promoting road safety as well as that of the health, safety and environment (HSE) since the start of the construction works.
