First carriageway of Sg. Sebetan Bridge in Sarikei to be ready by June this year

Tuesday, 26 March 2019, Sarikei: The first carriageway of the new 35m single span Sungai Sebetan Bridge, 200m from Old Saratok Road under Sungai Awik Bridge-Bintangor Junction works package (Works Package 06) is expected to be opened to public by June this year.

LBU Project Manager for Works Package 06, Suhaili Md. Salleh said work is now focussed on deck slabbing before it moves on to do the parapet wall.

“Once the first carriageway is opened to traffic, we can move on to demolish the old bridge next to it to construct a new one.

“We schedule the overall bridge completion to be in April next year,” he said.

Another new bridge, the 35m single span Sungai Seblak Bridge which is adjacent to access road to SK Lichok, he said, would see its first carriageway ready by end of this year.

“We had just launched the beams for this new bridge recently and soon, we will cast the deck slab before we do the parapet wall.

“Like Sungai Sebetan Bridge, once the first carriageway is opened to traffic tentatively end of this year, we will move on to demolish the old bridge to construct a new one.

“We expect the overall bridge completion to be in June next year,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Suhaili revealed that about 4.8 km of new carriageway from Sungai Awik Bridge to Old Saratok Road junction (Ch.0+100 to Ch.4+800 LHS except minor stretch at Saratok junction) is now opened to traffic.

“We have laid the binder course for this particular stretch and the final layer of wearing course will be laid by early next year. In the meantime, we have shifted the traffic to the first carriageway,” he said.

Work on the second carriageway at RHS of the same stretch is currently progressing at full swing. For new carriageway on RHS which will be paved up to wearing course layer will be closed for public use.

Another 2.4km of first carriageway from Old Saratok Road junction towards Sarikei (Ch.5+300 to Ch.7+680) he added, would be ready by next month albeit paved with binder course
