Wednesday, 24 October 2018, Kuching: It was an inspiring day for 42 civil engineering diploma students from Politeknik Mukah when they visited Bakun Junction-Sungai Tangap (WPC10) last Thursday to see and experience for themselves the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak up close
During the visit, these civil engineering students made a pit stop at Nyabau Interchange where they were given the opportunity to do a quick survey on the traffic volume at the area.
Once completed, this interchange is expected to ease the traffic plying between Sibu and Miri.
Other than the interchange, the students also visited the premix plant in Sebubok to look at premix manufacturing.
The students were also introduced to flexible pavement method and testing and commissioning implementation while a briefing on Highway Information Modelling was conducted for them to enlighten them on this 3D engineering drawing from the conventional paper drawing method.
WPC10 Project Manager Chong Cheong Leong said the visit was essential for these students as it gives them a hands-on experience on how highway is being constructed and the importance of Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Traffic Management (HSET) in the project.
“The visit gives them a practical experience on the ground on how a civil engineer works.
“I am sure the students have gained a lot from this visit and on our part, we are glad that we were able to share with them our experience.
“Hopefully with this visit, it will help them with their studies and of course, we look forward to more such visit not only from Politeknik Mukah but also from other institutions of learning,” he said.
