Wednesday, 17 October 2018, Kuching: It was a great insight for 47 Class F Bumiputera contractors who attended briefings organised by LBU’s Bumiputera Relations Department over a span of three days last week held in Serian, Sibu and Miri.
This group of contractors had received their Letter of Intent to build bus shelters following the balloting process held in full public view during the official launches of the works packages of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak in 2016.
Led by Bumiputera Relations Manager Shah Iszhan Isnin, this outreach programme shed light on the contractors’ job scope, contract specifications, and processes related to invitation to quote and payment.
“During the briefings, we were supported by colleagues from Project Development, Commercial and Contract as well as Government Relations Department who briefed the contractors on their respective scopes.
“At the same time, we collaborated with related agencies like Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and Maybank Berhad in their agenda to facilitate this Bumiputera Participation Programme (BPP) by providing a brief course on Project and Site Management and also potential financial assistance to enhance the development and capabilities these contractors,” said Shah.
During the briefings, ABM shared with the contractors the wide range of its development courses and available programmes besides offering the application of Green Card for any interested contractors while Maybank promoted the funding schemes available to these contractors.
“Parallel to our BPP objective in supporting Bumiputera contractor’s capacity building, we are looking into more similar programmes in the near future.
“We are looking at collaborating with other different agencies, education and financial institutions in order to provide project management knowledge and financial assistance to these Bumiputera contractors to enhance their capabilities,” said Shah.
