Week-long campaign to promote HSE and traffic safety along Pan Borneo Highway

Wednesday, 3 October 2018, Kuching: In a move to create greater awareness on the importance of quality, health, safety and environment as well as traffic management during construction, collectively termed as QHSET, Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) has organised a week-long campaign starting today to promote these values throughout the 11 works packages of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.

According to LBU’s Chief Executive Officer, Ir Safuani Abdul Hamid, “We believe this QHSET Week, aimed at promoting and reminding everyone on the importance of health, safety, environment and traffic management, is the first ever such campaign to be organised in Sarawak’s construction industry”.

Themed “Our Life, Our Legacy”, the QHSET campaign will include a series of internal and various public engagement activities to be held by various works packages from Telok Melano all the way to the northern Miri.

At QHSET launch today, Safuani reiterated that LBU and its main contractors involved in the project take health, safety, environment and the safety of the road users through its traffic management seriously.

In the just concluded Jelajah FT Roadpedia led by Works Minister Baru Bian to look at the progress of the project, Safuani said the entourage comprising senior officials from the ministry as well as various relevant government agencies had seen for themselves the efforts undertaken to implement HSE and traffic management to ensure safety of workers and the public during construction.

“All of these QHSET initiatives do not happen by chance. It happens by design.

“Attaining a high standard of quality, health & safety, care for the environment and efficient traffic management needs to become our culture.

“Together, through the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, we are setting the benchmark for better QHSET standards in construction in Sarawak. Our QHSET Week is living proof of our commitment to better these standards,” he stressed.

The PDP and the main contractors being builders of the Highway, he said, had a heavy responsibility to ensure that lives are guarded, protected and saved.

“The processes of QHSET are there to ensure we live up to the standards we set, and continuously improve them,” he added.

The QHSET Week 2018 launch event this morning saw the announcement of winners for best contractor and best initiatives in HSET.
