Tuesday, 18 September 2018, Kuching: As part of its capacity-building effort, LBU participated in Politeknik Kuching’s initiative to equip students with industry skills by inviting professional as visiting lecturers.
LBU’s Contract Manager (Red Line) Sani Zamshuri Bujang, was recently invited to give a lecture on the subjects of contract management and tender management in the construction industry.
Some 100 students from the Diploma in Civil Engineering and Diploma in Building Services course attended the lecture by Sani held on September 12 at Lotte Chemical Titan Mini Auditorium JKPK, PKS, in Kuching.
“This lecture programme is also part of LBU’s CSR with local institutions of higher learning to share our knowledge on the real application of project management, engineering and construction.
“At the same time, it also serves to establish and foster closer rapport with these institutions,” said Sani.
Under this lecture programme, all polytechnics under the Education Ministry have allocated 60 hours for visiting lecturers as part of the syllabus for its engineering programme.
“The experience is beneficial of both visiting lecturers and students. Industry players like us get to be part of the learning process, whereas students can gain an insight into how what they learn in class is applied to jobs”, added Sani.
Other than this, LBU has also embarked on internship programme for undergraduates where recently, a group of seven undergraduates completed their 10-week attachment where they were exposed to various departments to have a taste of how it is like to be an engineer.
