Traffic Management induction course for WPCs

Monday, 16 July 2018, Kuching: Four works packages conducted a traffic management induction course last Saturday to familiarise its site workers with its do’s and don’ts and compliance as well as basic flagman skills.

The four works packages are WPC05 (Batang Skrang-Sungai Awik), WPC07 (Bintangor Junction-JUlau Junction & Sibu Airport-Sungai Kua Bridge), WPC08 (Sungai Kua Bridge-Sungai Arip Bridge) and WPC10 (Mile 5-Nyabau Flyover & Jalan Bakun Junction-Sungai Tangap).

LBU Traffic Management Manager Masdi Baharom said the induction course which would involve the remaining eight works packages would be completed by the end of this month.

“The purpose of this course is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the site workers on basic traffic management.

“We hope through this basic course, everyone will be exposed on the importance of traffic management in light of the construction of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is being done on a live road where the element of traffic management has become more pertinent for everyone to be aware of.

“We want to make sure that the safety is not compromised as far as that which involves the traffic is concerned, hence the induction course,” he said.

Other than this course, the Traffic Management Unit which is under the QAQC Department has also taken measures to enhance the traffic management activities at all the works packages.

These include among others the use of concrete barriers at locations where the flagmen stand to further ensure their safety while controlling the traffic.

The introduction of boom gates or stopper system at all the exit points of the construction sites is another enhancement being considered for implementation soon.
