Monday, 2 July 2018, Kuching: It was a Saturday morning full of festive cheer for 70 inmates of Rumah Seri Kenangan who were feted to a Ramah Tamah Gawai Raya luncheon hosted by Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU), Project Delivery Partner for Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak at the old folk’s home premise here.
The visit was organised by LBU Permata Club, the Company’s sports and recreational outfit, in conjunction with the recent Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
During the visit which is part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, LBU chief executive officer Ir. Safuani Abdul Hamid presented a RM7,000 cheque to the old folk’s home to assist with running its activities.
Each of the 70 inmates, comprising 40 males and 30 females, were also presented with goodie bags.
Staff and members of the club mingled with the inmates while at the same time entertained them with songs and dances.
In other CSR activities by LBU, the Company recently feted 50 orphans from Rumah Peryatim Miri to a buka puasa event last month where they were also presented with duit raya.
In addition, at the end of last year, LBU also handed over to the State Education Department, 2 new school blocks of SK Kampung Buda which it had rebuilt comprising six furnished classrooms, one science room and administrative room as well as a toilet block.
LBU took up the initiative to rebuild SK Kampung Buda at a cost of RM2.8mil using the Industrialised Building System (IBS).
The school had to be rebuilt when a landslip incident in 2016 caused it to be severely damaged where the classrooms block for Primary 4 to 6, the pre-school block, a nine-unit teacher’s quarters, surau, toilets, guard house, science room, textbooks room and resource room collapsed into the river.
