Wednesday, 30 May 2018, Kuching: Two days of heavy downpour last Thursday and Friday caused a 4m road shoulder at Ch. 2+950 in Sibu Section to give way.
The project team from Bintangor Junction-Julau Junction and Sibu Airport-Sungai Kua Bridge (WPC07) Works Package who were on their daily routine inspection spotted the collapse and immediately sprang into action to carry out the necessary repair works.
The inspection team found the inlet at the existing culvert clogged with debris, causing rainwater to build up and contribute to localised water ponding and erosion. This eventually led to the collapse of the 4m localised road shoulder.
While the repair works were carried out, the project team also immediately put in place the traffic management to manage the traffic.
In less than 24 hours, by Saturday, the road shoulder was repaired.
Daily inspection by the project team is a routine procedure to ensure that existing trunk road that is being upgraded to Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is maintained while the construction works are being carried out.
