Tuesday, 24 April 2018, Kuching: The Highway Information Modelling (HIM) which made its debut in the construction of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is featured in the recent second issue of ‘e-construct’ magazine.
The magazine, published by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), carries a four-page story on how the highway project is leading the change in the use of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the construction of this single largest infrastructure project in the State.
The first article entitled “Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak leading the change with Highway Information Modelling” describes to readers what HIM is all about, and that this technology greatly helps to digitise the organisation of bulks of construction information in one database which is accessible to multiple parties involved in the project.
HIM is a combination of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geospatial Information System (GIS) where both technologies are synergised to improve productivity in the whole construction process.
With HIM’s application, it means the conventional 2D engineering paper drawing is now converted to a 3D virtual drawing which gives a comprehensive x-ray vision from top to the underneath of the roads, hence providing an accuracy of information throughout the construction process.
The second article meanwhile narrates the origin of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project and commitment given by the government to deliver this four-lane dual carriageway to Sarawakians in the “AkuJanji” manifesto in the 2013 General Election.
In the last piece of the three articles, the magazine highlights some important facts of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak which include among others, the progress of the project.
