Thursday, 15 March 2018, Kuching: Following a series of road safety campaigns simultaneously held in all the 11 works packages from Telok Melano to Miri prior to the recent Chinese New Year celebration, the Kick-Off Project (KOP) at Jalan Nyabau – Jalan Bakun followed suit last Saturday when it conducted a road safety campaign at SK Kem Batu 18, Jalan Bintulu - Miri.
The campaign which was attended by all both the pupils and their parents was aimed at creating road safety culture and also to educate them on safe driving.
“Our aim is to encourage safer driving so that we can reduce the number of road accidents and at the same time, to inform them on the on-going construction of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.
“We want to inculcate good driving behaviour among the road users and we believe this effort has start from the young ones,” said LBU health and safety (HSE) officer, Abdul Rahman Kadir.
The road safety campaign is one of the key events for LBU, being the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) for the highway project in its effort to inculcate safe and good driving practice among the road users.
This is particularly so when the construction of the highway which is on a “live” road is currently on-going until its completion by the end of 2021.
Other than the campaign, LBU has also committed to airing road safety messages on popular radio stations i.e. Hitz FM, Era FM and My FM during major festivals.
A traffic management unit has also been setup recently to oversee the implementation of traffic management programmes.
