Project team walking extra miles to repair damaged roads

Monday, 12 February 2018, Kuching: The project teams at various sites have been putting in extra efforts in the past couple of days to do road repair works.

The floods that occurred in several sites, especially in Bintulu and Tatau stretch has made this repair works more pertinent as it had caused some stretches inaccessible and damaged.

With the floods subsided and the wet spell stopped, the project team wasted no time and sprung into action even on the weekend to repair the damaged stretches to ensure road users will have smooth drive especially in view of the Chinese New Year this Friday.

Several works packages have been doing road repairs which are beyond the normal routine maintenance scope.

Works package contract (WPC) 11 is one of the examples where the road maintenance was carried out beyond the scope in Suai, Bakun. Another example is WPC09 at Rh. Panjang/ Rh. Sadok and Batu Katak  areas .

The worst hit area- Selangau has also seen WPC08 carryying out maintenance works beyond normal routine scope in Simpang Kemena/ Rose Café area as well as KM84 Sibu to Bintulu stretch.

Similar road maintenance was also carried out at KM91 towards Kuching and Gedong to Balai Ringin by WPC03.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof in a press conference few days ago had said floods had cause some damages to the existing trunk road this was compounded by heavy vehicles which ply along the construction stretch.

He has urged all contractors to beef up the road maintenance works just to make sure the roads are in good condition in time for the Chinese New Year home rush.

The project team is definitely not a let down as they have pumped in extra hours to do their level best to provide a smooth drive for everyone.
