KUCHING -- Some stretches of the Federal Route 1 trunk road or Pan Borneo Highway is impassable due to rising waters following continuous rains.
Minister of Work, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in a statement, said the works package contractors and traffic management teams are on standby to open the road to traffic as soon as the water recedes.
“We advise all road-users to be extra careful when passing through these areas. Look out for the directional signage, go slow and drive safe to get home to your loved ones,” he said today.
This morning, the Selangau-Tatau road at Sungai Arip, about 132 km from Sibu, was inaccessible to vehicles when two parts of it were inundated by 1.2 metres of flood water.
Meanwhile, the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak Facebook page reported that the road at the existing overtaking lane after Stapang, more than 50 km from Sibu, caved in at about noon today.
