Wednesday, 10 January 2018, Kuching: A short video has been released to commemorate the handover of SK Kampung Buda last December 29.
The handover ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amat Douglas Uggah Embas who handed over the school on behalf of the state government to State Education Department, represented by its state director Rakayah Madon.
The 4 minutes short video, a production of Corporate Communications Department, started with a villager who spoke about the plight of the 73 pupils who had to attend their classes at SK Spaoh which is 18km away after the school block collapsed due to a landslip incident some time in June last year.
The landslip incident resulted in the school severely damaged where the classrooms block for Primary 4 to 6, pre-school block, a nine-unit teacher’s quarters, surau, toilets, guard house, science room, textbooks room and resource room were all collapsed.
LBU chief executive officer, Ir. Safuani Abdul Hamid in the video footage spoke about the school rebuilding exercise undertaken by the company as well as the 11 main contractors of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak who also took part to rebuild dilapidated school each in their respective works packages.
“Rebuilding the school is akin to building highway where we hope it will open the mind of the pupils as they attain education, thus providing them hope in their future undertakings,” said Safuani.
Construction of the school which took almost a year with a cost of RM2.8mil had not been easy for the appointed contractor, Era Kristal Sdn Bhd as it had to brace the unpredictable weather and the bumpy narrow bund road, which is the only access to the school.
The school which is now in use comes with brand new six furnished classrooms, one science room and administrative room each, as well as a toilet block. All are being built with the Industrialised Building System (IBS).
