Thursday, 10 August 2017, Kuching: It was a good learning opportunity for the project team of LBU to listen to two renowned construction industry players, Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ismail Mohamed Taib and Dato Mohamad Razali Othman, on the topic of “Bridge Construction and its Abnormalities”.
The talk, organised by LBU on 5 August to coincide with the monthly Project Managers coordination meeting, saw the two experts share their expertise on bridge construction with case studies on successes and challenges overcome.
Lessons learnt were shared from investigations following the construction of the Second Penang Bridge and Lebuhraya Lingkaran 2 Butterworth.
The session also saw the experts identify construction defects of past bridge projects which were due to mistakes in piling, drainage works, soil compaction and scaffolding.
In ending, the LBU team were reminded on the importance of good design and following through with construction works that is undertaken based on the drawings.
Deviation from this would lead to high maintenance costs in the future.
